The Virtues Programme
The school is committed to the virtues living values programme.
Virtues have been described as the life skills of character and a means for schools to be safe and caring places. It provides guiding principles and tools for the development of the whole person. Education is the key to transformation, but it must involve education, which touches the human spirit. Virtues are more basic than values. All cultures honour virtues such as courage, love, honesty, loyalty, excellence and service, yet they apply them differently according to their own diverse value systems. The strategies of the virtues programme help us all to remember who we really are!
Some of the many virtues our school promotes include:
HONESTY
Being honest is being open, trustworthy and truthful
- Say what you mean and mean what you say
- Make promises you can keep
- Admit your mistakes
- Refuse to lie, cheat or steal
- Tell the truth tactfully
- Be true to your self and do what you know is right.
RESPECT
Respect is caring for and valuing ourselves and others. We are practising respect when we:
- Speak courteously to everyone
- Take special care of other peoples belongings
- Honour the rules of our family, school and country
- Treat others how you want to be treated
- Expect respect for our body and rights
SELF DISCIPLINE
Self discipline means control. We are practising self discipline when:
- We speak and act calmly when we are hurt or angry
- We get things done in an orderly efficient way
- We create routines for ourselves
- We do what is expected without people having to watch over us
- We do things on time
ENTHUSIASM
Enthusiasm is being inspired and full of spirit. It is being cheerful and happy. It is being excited about something and looking forward to it. we are showing enthusiasm when we:
- Enjoy looking forward to something
- Think of imaginative ways of doing things
- Smile, laugh and enjoy what we do
- Do things wholeheartedly
- Enjoy the wonders of life
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibility means others can depend on you. You are accountable for your actions. When you make a mistake you fix it and you give your best to any job. We are practising responsibility when we:
- Take agreements seriously
- Are willing to do our bit
- Admit our mistakes
- Do the very best we can
- Are willing to fix our mistakes
TOLERANCE
Tolerance is to accept differences. It is knowing that other people have feelings, needs, hopes and dreams. We are showing tolerance when we:
- Make others feel included by being friendly
- Don't complain when uncomfortable conditions cannot be helped
- Change ourselves instead of others
- Accept people the way that they are
CREATIVITY
We can show creativity when we:
- Discover our gifts
- Use knowledge and training to develop them
- Think of new ways to make things work better
- Use our imagination
- Do things in our own creative way
PURPOSEFULNESS
We are acting purposefuly when we have a goal we are working towards. We are showing purposefulness when we:
- Have a clear vision of what we want to accomplish
- Focus on a goal and know why we are doing it
- Do things one at a time and finish what we start
- Persevere until we get results
CO-OPERATION
Co-operation is working together with a willingness to respect others and follow rules. it is joining in with others to do something that might be difficult to do alone.We show co-operation when we:
- Work together but respect others feelings
- Never be afraid to ask for help if you find something difficult to do on your own
- Respect other feelings
